- There was a certain man living alone in a house. One stormy, cold night he was just sitting down to read a paper before a pleasant fire when the thought came into his mind that the room in which he was, was haunted.
He now began to get afraid. However he amused himself by reading until the clock struck twelve. Then he began to think that there were more people in the room than himself.
