One night there was a man returning home from the fair of Athy.

One night there was a man returning home from the fair of Athy. It was very late in the year, and the moon was shining brightly. When he came to Ballykilcavan where Sit Hunt Welsh lives now, an old grey cat jumped on the back of the car, and remained with him until he came as far as Munny Cross.
When she was about to jump off, the cat turned and looking at the man said: "When you go home tell Pretty Face that Booman is dead: The man wondered and said he would.
When he came home he unyoked his horse, and fed him and put him up in the stable, went in and told his wife (what) about the strange cat and how she told him to tell Pretty Face that Booman was dead.
Their own cat was on the hob, and when he had heard his story, the cat let three meows and out in the door and was never seen after.
