  1. Once upon a time there lived in a district of Derreens, Paddy Guilfoyle. He was driving his donkey to the Pasture. Before he came up to it he caught up with a funeral on the road. The corpse was laid on the road at this time and there was an argument going on about carrying it any farther. As Paddy came up with his donkey one asked the question "Who will carry it now?" and another answered "Who will but Paddy Guilfoyle." They being all strangers to Paddy, he was greatly surprised at them knowing his name. So Paddy got under it and carried it to the grave yard. One asked "Who will make the grave?" One said "Who will but Paddy Guilfoyle" and he had to dig the grave. "Now who will put him down?" one said Who will but Paddy Guildoyle,"and he did so. Being covered and all, as they all stood there at mid-night, one on the crowd shouted, "Whip". No sooner had he said it when he flew, and after
