  1. "Samhains" (Sowens)
    Steep the oatmeal in water for two or three days until it sours. Stir an odd time. Strain and boil until it thickens like cornflour.
    Nettles
    Fry the bacon, put water, pepper and salt in a saucepan. Add as much chopped nettles as required, also a few handfuls of oatmeal. Make dumplings of boiled porridge and flour well rolled in hands. Boil all together.
    Sometimes a sheep's head is added to the stew.
