    The poem was composed and written by Master Calvert, Kilmore, Parish of Ematris, Barony of Dartry, Co Monaghan, sometime between 1822 and 1843.
    He read the newspaper for the people. In those times, when few could read and newspapers were rare he was looked up to from admirers.
    The girl to whom he was engaged died and he wrote this poem addressing her as his Wild Rose.
