    Paddy Deighan's Farewell
    I
In the days that are past when poor Paddy was young,
His advice was thought good and by many was sung,
But my heart now is heavy that then was so light,
And my days appear gloomy that then were so bright,
Fare you well, fare you well.
    II
My hair is fine brown if I rightly remember,
Is now white as the snow on the hills in November
I will now hear that mandate,
    Prepare and make ready,
Your warfare is over, come up, honest Paddy,
Fare you well, fare you well.
