    and put into a wooden basin and the butter milk is squeezed out of it. It is then salted and well mixed and washed thoroughly with cold water. Then it is made into [?] or rolls with butter patters. The buttermilk is used for baking, feeding calves, and pigs. If a man goes into a house where the people are churning he is not allowed to light his pipe.
    Long ago if a person went to his neighbours house for a live coal to light his fire and the family were churning he would not get it.
