  1. About two miles from Clones on the road leading to Newbliss in the townland of Anmakilly, is a well called "St John's Well". The well is at the foot of a lone tree.
The owner of the well was ploughing the field, and a branch of the tree was in the horses' way. He went home for an axe to cut the branch. When he had the branch cut through to the centre, it fell, and at the same moment one of the horses fell dead.
The branch fell at the side of the well, and it is still to be seen lying there.
