  1. Our churn is 8 1/2 feet tall and it is 20 ins.wide at the top. The sides are round and it is 18 years of age. The top of the churn is called the crib. Churning is done once a week The family help at the work. (b) If strangers come in at churning time they help at the work because it is not considered lucky if they did not give a hand. The churning takes one hour and it is done by hand. The dash is always moved upwards and downwards but when it is finished it is rolled from side to side. The butter rises to the top of the churn when the milk is churned. A little boiling water is poured in during the process to bring the milk to churning point. The butter is taken off with a strainer
