    I stood the scene most bravely, the truth I tell to you
    Still in hopes to meet a better day, than the one that I went through
    When I sighted the old homestead, it gave me hope anew
    The fields were covered deep in snow, as far as I could view.
    My mother in the garden and she gathering up the hens
    My father at the gable and he busy bruising whins
    My sister washing praties and my brother
