    At one time the townland was practically cleared to make large farms for people who were taken from other districts. One of these was a man named Eakin who was taken up from Corvalley. The last of the Eakin family sold the place some few years ago. There are four people in the townland over 70 years of age Their names are Thomas Ward, Patrick Ward, James Meehan and Mary Gartlan. James Meehan and Thomas Ward can tell old stories in English but they know very little Irish. In the days of the hedge schools there was one in this district and it was taught by a man named Mc Mahon a native of the district. Most of the houses in the district now are slated but formerly they were all thatched. The name Coolfore (Cúl Fuar) means
