styled Archbishop of Ferns. Saint Moling founded his monastery at Ros-Broc, which was afterwards called Teach-Moling which means the House of Moling, and is now called Saint Mullins. In A.D. 824 OR 825 the Danes sailed up the Barrow from Waterford, and plundered the monastery. It was again plundered by the Danes in the year 951, and it was burned in the year 1138 A.D.
The cemetery around the monastery is very historic. All the noted members of the Kavanagh family are buried there. The great Art McMurrough Kavanagh died in the year 1417. He was buried in Saint Mullins, and it is related that his fuenral reached from Ross to Saint Mullins a distance of six miles.
The famous Brian Hestroake who was wounded in the face by a sabre in the battle of Aughrim in the year 1691 is buried in St. Mullins. General Cloney who was one of the insurgent leaders in 1798 is also buried there.
There were four fairs held formerly at Saint Mullins namely, the 17th June was St Moling's day. The 25th July was St. Jame's day. The 8th September Festival of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The 1st November the feast of All Saints.
