  1. Margaret Mordaunt was married to my Grannie's uncle. Her father and her brother Ralph were painting the interior of the church one time. They were up on a scaffold doing the gothic arch over the sanctuary when the light went out. At that time there were no matches to be had. A light had to be got by rubbing flint against steel. The father left Ralph and went out to get a light.
    While he was waiting till his father returned he heard beautiful singing. He described it in such a way to the father that he said it should be the old monks chanting. The singing came from under the Boatman's gallery and went in
