    Evidently in latter years the fairies have kept their prisoner under stricter surveillance, and have taken all precautions necessary to ensure his perpetual incarceration and thralldom.

    Part of Mr. Vass's narrative is in Direct Speech and interspersed with Anglo-Irish expressions, so common in the speech of country folk.
