Measles were in by-gone days cured by giving the patient sheep manure boiled in milk. This medicine was called Saffron.
To cure of child of the Whooping Cough a loaf was given to an ass. The crumbs that fell from the ass's milk were given to the child. The child was then put under the ass's head three times in the names of The Father and of The Son and of The Holy Ghost.
Ring worm was cured by placing a ring got from a married couple of the same name on the affected part of the body.
Rheumatism was cured in several ways. Sufferers went through arched windows of monasteries on special days of the year. Others used visit Holy Wells to drink the blessed water.Toothache:-
Nowadays if a person has a toothache he goes to the dentist and has the aching tooth extracted or the cavity in the tooth filled. In by-gone days the process of having a tooth pulled was a painful one, and people avoided the operation as much as possible.
