    to eat some "flat-cake" with no butter. They also drank cold water with it. There were very old fashioned ovens used long ago. Underneat the oven there was a small hole and red sinders were put in it. These sinders heated the oven and baked a cake.
    Griddle-bread was made on an open grate. This bread was generally made when a visitor visited the house. A "brand" was the name of the iron stand the griddle cake was made on.
