  1. The Lacken Mills
    On the left bank of the river Nore the Lacken Mills are situated. They are approached from John's Bridge by way of Maudlin Street. The mills cover three acres of ground including a large plantation. They make a very picturesque sight from the Canal Walk at the opposite side of the river.
    The buildings are four storeys in height and can easily be seen from a distance. The mills were destroyed by a fire twenty-three years before Mr. W. Meredith took it over in the year 1878. He then
