   In every farmer's house long ago they made their own candles. Every year they killed a pig and kept all the fat together They also got bull-rushes and peeled the green skin off them. Inside was the white portion or pulp which they kept and dried. They melted the fat in a pot and dipped the white part of the rushes in it. They then took them out and let them dry. They did this a number of times until they were thick enough
