  1. The people long ago lived chiefly on what they used to sow themselves.
For their breakfeast they used to eat stirabout and cherens and sometimes they used to have to eat potatoes and salt.
For their supper dinner they used to have potatoes and a bowl of fummery and butter made up as a dip.
For their supper they used to eat oat meal bread and boxty. They used to make the boxty with oat meal and potatoes.
When they used to be digging the potatoes long ago they used to make a fire in the field of old turf scraws. Then they used to put the potatoes into the fire and when they used to cooked they used to eat them with the skins on them.
