    Local Marriage Customs
    This is the district of Arigna, a pocket between the mountains of Braulieve and Munterkenny in the extreme northern end of Co Roscommon Parish of Kilronan and Barony of Boyle.
    Forty years ago I heard the old people talk about "Force-away" marriages that they remembered. They even named men living in the locality at the time, who got their wives in this shocking manner. The "Force-away" marriage was so called because the girl or bride-to be was captured and carried off by force from her parents home, to the home of the bride to be.
