    the assistance of his wife, he escaped and came to Ireland. As a memento of his narrow escape he took with him the key and bolt of the guillotine.
    These relics were presented to the Dublin Museum.
    Hugh purchased the Straffan Estate from Hugh Wentworth and John Henry in 1831. The present beautiful house was rebuilt in 1832, and in 1837, Straffan Protestant Church was built.
    This famous Hugh Barton died at Straffan House in 1854.
