In old times there were many people drowned and killed by accident. There were two men drowned at the "New Bridge." One of them was Peter McKenna a shoemaker who lived where "John Peter John" is now. The other was Patrick McKenna who lived in Drumfurrer. They were coming from mass on 15th of August 1893 and went into the river to bathe. One of them took cramps in the water. The other man went to save him and the two were drowned.
There was another man killed at James Treanor's of Crush called Mick McKenna of Goland. He was killed by a horse that ran away. There was another man called Pat McKenna Feddar. He was killed at Derrykenihmore Bridge by a horse that ran away.
