She carried in her hand a bag which seemed to be full of something When I made her tea she opened the bag and get out tobacco and a pipe and began to smoke.
When she had the tobacco in it I lighted a match for her and she began to scream that I would burn her face.
She then lay down on the floor and slept to Pat McKenna came in and began to talk to her.

“About 60 years ago there was a hedge school in the townland of Bragan.”
About 60 years ago there was a hedge school in the townland of Brogan. Seated in the corner of a field belonging to Mick McKenna (Naily) was a thatched little house this being the school.
The master was lame and his name was McKenna. He was 60 years old. Each scholar in the winter would take an arm of turf every morning and so in this way they were well supplied with turf.
