   If they were going to a fair or market and met a red haired woman on the road they would turn back for fear of bad luck or if a weasel crossed the road or a single magpie they would return home also. They would never set a hen on Saturday for fear of a bad flock. They would never lend any farming implements on the first of May for fear of having a bad crop themselves.

   If the crook would crack on its own accord they would believe there was a stranger coming to the house.

   I was told there were some people in this locality who used to tie a red rag on the tail of the cattle lest the neighbours would blink them and take their produce away.
