    so badly wounded that he never went back to his office work. Two of the other men were left lying unconscious on the road. The other three attackers then fled, for fear when they saw what they thought were dead men. They ran into some yeomen who were out doing patrol. They were taken back and made carry the wounded men into the nearest house, and then lodged in jail to await trial.
    John Mac Mahon refused to give information. Canon Harris a native of Kileevan advised him to give none.
    The trial came on. The judge ordered John to take the oath. John lifted the book several times but put it down again. The judge asked for his information. He was told he gave none. "You have saved a pair of rascals from five years in jail" said the judge.
