  1. Old Forges in the Brosna District
    (1) One where Mosey O' Connell, Creamey Manager, lives. It was owned by Jade Cronin. This was burned while the smith was "laying" a spade for Robert Noles. A spark from the chimney set it on fire. To "lay" a spafe means to steel the mouth)
    (2) One where Fitzmaurice the butcher lived. Tade's grandfather got this site when the old forge was burned.
    (3) One at Lavalla, in the field now owned by Joe Horgan. Denis Lane owned this. It was burned.
    (4) Donal a Greine had a forge in the Cork , Limerick border.
    (5) One where Mt Collins Creamery now stands.
    (6) There are two forges here at present _ one owned by Mike Cronin & the other by William Lane (known as Billec)
    Old Mickey Keane, an old smith, was called one night at Ardmina, Cordal. He drove a show for the man but he found no substances in the hoof. Fr that day week he was dead.
    Tade's father made turf pikes out of 4" round iron
    Both tops were pointed and a straightened horseshoe was welded on for a shank
