- First there is got a bunch of strong green rushes
and they are left on the hob to dry.
Next they peeled gently but a small strip of green
is left for support. Then a plate of grease is got
and they are rubbed to and fro on the plate in
the grease and then they are left in a cool place
to dry. A cake of soft mud is next got and the ends
of stuck in the cake. The ends of them are stuck
in ashes and now they are ready for use. - Collector

- First green sallies are cut and are put in warm rain water
until they get tough. Next a hoop is got and six
or seven strong black sallies are tied around the hoop.
These rods and hoops make the shape of the basket. Next
