  1. The farmers of this district usually plant abut an acre of potatoes for main crop and about half a rood of early varieties.
    Great attention has to be given to the early varieties to ensnare a fairly good crop, in the month of June. The previous year when the crop is being raised the seed is chosen. Those potatoes are left exposed to the sun and wind (but not to rain) until they are quite hard. They are stored carefully until November when they are put into sprouting boxes.
    The land is prepared for them in January. (They are always planted in drills) Manure from the farmyard is spread in the furrows and each seed potatoe is carefully placed on it lest the bud would be broken. They are covered with a shovel (the drills are closed) When the stalks appear above the surface They are moulded and later second moulded
