o'clock to begin Lent. A lot of people get married before Shrove Tuesday and on it.
Hallow Eve is the day before All Saints; day. Children play many games such as putting money in water and trying to take it out with their mouths. The big people play games such as putting two nuts on a range or hot iron and then think of some two which are every friendly. If the two nuts burn down together they will live happily but if they jump off they will not.
On Ash Wednesday people wear crosses of ashes on their foreheads to show that Christ suffered for our sins.
Whit Sunday or white Sunday the people called it long ago. They all wore white on that day.
