    and local History. The panels are beautifullly carved with patterns of interlacing and the workmanship points to the tenth century.
    Where the present Protestant Church of Ahamplish stands, there was a famous monastic building. Close by is the celebrated Tobar Molaise, which takes its name from Molaise, the patron saint of the place.
    "Were it not for Molaise's words
    At the Cross of Ahamplish -
    I would not now permit
    Disease or distemper in Ireland."
    This is an extract from an old poem ascribed to Saint Columba who received his sentence of exile from St. Molaise at Ahamplish Cross. The exact site of this Cross cannot now be discerned.
