    I am a poor rover this nation all over

    (continued from previous page)
    They ran to see which of them would be first to the spot.
    They came to the door to see me well secured,
    They held a long council for fear I'd elope,
    But at length was decided by the black belted schemers
    To tie me head-neck and heels to the flag with a rope.
    In that sad condition I laid till next morning,
    Till I, fast with a halter, got nothing to eat
    Stretched on cold flags with my clothes all in rags
    And my two eyes battered and black in my pate.
    For beating two peelers between the two peepers
    And breaking another big orange-man's nose,
    They came to take me in the street for no reason,
    And that's all the harm I done I suppose.
