    pencil when teaching. The pencils were often got by breaking soft gravel stones on the shore. They read a book called "Reading Made Easy" and they always called it "Reada-ma-daisy
    The children used to sit on the floors and on stools made of sticks and were not in classes. They had only a few books. There was no blackboard at first but later on Dan Kilcullen made a blackboard in his school.
    In this district after Manus More stopping the first National School was opened where Pat Grehan's old house is now in Kilrusheighter and was taught by a man named Melvin from Farniharpy. In 1875 this new school was built in Garryduff and was still called Kilrusheighter.
