    It was on the sixteenth of December, as I hear the people say;

    It was on the sixteenth of December, as I
    hear the people say;
    When Meehan's donkey cart
    That night was stole away.
    When Meehan found the cart was gone,
    He searched Pat Kelly's shed,
    Saying upon my word my cart was stole
    and an old one left instead.
    Then Seargent Dunn took up his gun,
    When he got his dispatch and four men
    more then started out the robber for to catch.
    They tracked him out the Lady's Bray
    and into Coollaney Town,
    No trace or tidings of this robber could be found.
    Down in Dronard they are working hard,
    They are watching night and day and if they get
    their hands on this highway man,
    They will put him under lock and key.
    If there was no one alive but Dannie's wife
