The boys did not recognize this woman or any of the other women in the camp - although they knew every woman in the district. When the woman ran towards them with the cross stick in her hand they fled, chased by the woman for more than a mile across the mountain.Father White, parish priest of Kilmacshalgan, coming home one evening from a station in the Glen saws the same sight at the same place. He was riding a horse with another man riding behind him. When they had passed the camp the man asked the priest if he saw the spinners in the sand-pit. Father White answered and said "Don't heed them and they will not heed you."
