    was that it was considered to be the Beggar's days to wait for the very last Monday or Tuesday to get married.
    Another strange happening at this period in this district was -- that in case a pair was anxious to get married but well knew it would not be sanctioned by their parents, they'd plan as was locally called "to Run Away" i.e., they'd go to a friend's house of the lady. Those friends would return with word to both houses. The news got circulated, the neighbours of both gathered to the Run-away house, brought drink with them, made up the dispute, marriage next morning & so brought the bride home.
    The idea was, that when a girl 'Ran Away' no one else would ever seek her, hence she must be allowed to marry this boy or remain an old maid.
    I forgot to mention that when the bride was hauled home, on no conditions must she return to her parents' home for a month.
