“In the parish of Columcille, Longford about fifteen miles from here lived a girl forty years ago who went to her room and refused to take any food.”
Story told by Mrs Duffy age 80 years mother of Hugh Duffy. She is still living. I heard the same story told by Thomas Slevin Errew who died about fifteen years ago at the age of 75:-
In the parish of Columcille, Longford about fifteen miles from here lived a girl forty years ago who went to her room and refused to take any food. She lived two years without any food. Food was left beside her and remained untouched. A friend of hers suspected that she used to take food on the quiet and one day looked into the room and although she lay motionless when people were in the room she was now jumping through the room and going through all sorts of strange antics. Her friends brought the priest to see could he do any thing for her. He prayed for some time and she that had got nearly like a skeleton came back to her former appearance and began to talk. She told them that it was not she that had been in the room for some time but another person left by the fairies. She told(continues on next page)- Informant
