  1. This is what happened to Peter Kiernan Cornafest. Him and two comrade boys of his crossed in a boat from Pat McKiernan's fort to Tihold to attend a dance in Longford. So they were coming home at 3 or 4 oclock in the morning . One of them wanted to go round the road and Peter Kiernan said "no I don't want to have to come back for my cot tomorrow and besides it is a nice moonlight night" so three sat into their boat and when they were in the middle of the lake they saw a big black man coming walking towards them so none of them said anything but them all watched him. He stepped over and into the boat and sat down on the one empty seat that was left in it. The three men were paralyzed with fear they could not speak but the man rowed in for the shore.
