  1. Once there was a poor widow who had one son and his name was Paideen. He was a fine handsome young lad. Gradually he began to fail and got peevish. Nothing the poor mother could do for him would please him. The doctor tried every remedy to no avail. One day a poor travelling woman came to her house looking for a charity and when she saw the boy in bed she asked the woman if he was sick and the mother told her about all the trouble she had with him. The poor women nudged the mother and they both went outside the door and the poor women said to the mother, "Musha" thats not your own son at all, the good people "God speed them" has them. And when I am gone away put down a big fire on the middle of the floor and leave the two doors open and when it is kindling up put a sheaf of straw on the top of it, and then take down that thing and hold it over the fire and see what will happen. With that the poor woman disappeared. The mother did as she was told what do you suppose happened a old man ran out the
