- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)quite easily. The nail at the end also helped in pulling out the candle. Three or four candles were sometimes made together in a mould.Dips in olden times called a Páideog. These were made from twisted flax-hemp, drawn several times through melted tallow, and hung up for use. They were about as thick as a pencil. They were held in the hand by one member of the family to give light to the others, while they sat down to supper.
