  1. Long ago there were no schools as there are nowadays. There were no teachers trained or set aside for the purpose of teaching as there are now. However hard it was to obtain education or however diligently they tailed all day in order to get a few hours to learn at night, we can boast that "Ireland was the Island of saints and scholars"
