- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)There is a tradition that it was built in honour of St. Ita the foster mother of St. Brendan and that the name Killyan comes from Cille Itan or the church of Ita.St. Brendan's well is in a village now named St. Brendan's but called Flin before the P.P. named it after St. Brendan in about 1910. This well is very large and surrounded by a stone wall. It is about 4 feet in depth. People often visit it on the Sundays of July for cures. They take off their shoes and walk round in it, and pray for whatever favour they want. They leave something on the trees round it. It is about 4 miles from Ballygar.The old church in Ballaghlea was about 60 foot long, 16 foot wide and said to be 10 ft high. The floors were made of yellow clay and the walls were white washed and there were no seats for the congregation. It would contain about 300 people. There were no confessional boxes in it. The altar was made of wood. Tis said it was used in Cromwell's time. Later on the wooden altar was brought to Newbridge church.There had been a market house in(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
