    For a sore throat:
    (1) To swallow the steam of boiled vinegar.
    (2) To put a stocking of warm salt around the neck.
    For a toothache:
    (1) A smoke of a pipe.
    (2) To fill the hole in the tooth with tobacco or with soda.
    (3) To hold a red coal as near as possible to the tooth.
    A sore lip used to be cured 1) by rubbing it with a snail 2) by keeping it covered with cream.
    Garlic was used for:
    (1) a bad cold when boiled with milk
