    told stories about ribbon men who came round with big blue ribbons and men who came carding the people.
    These men made certain laws and if the people broke them they would come with cards for carding wool and strip the people naked. Then they would rub the cards up and down their skin and cut it.
    The "Maoirs" or herds herded cattle for Mr Ronan who owned Flaskagh house and they fasted the forty days of Lent
