People used sometimes eat late at night; just before retiring they would eat a feed of potatoes. It is an old custom to eat eggs on Easter Sunday.
Tea was hardly every used long ago. I heard a story about a woman that was having a station in her house. This woman went to make the tea, and when she went to give it to the people what she did was, to put a "skib" over a pot and strain away the tea and keep the leaves to give them to the people. The priest then showed the woman how to make the tea, and told her that she had thrown away the best part of it. They were all wood vessels that were used long ago.
