    About 400 years ago a person would go to his neighbours house with a straw and they would pass it on to the next house and in this way it is said that all Ireland could be warned in twenty four hours.
    Boys would go round with a holly bush decorated with ribbons. They said a rhyme and then the people would give them money. This was done on St. Stephen's Day. The rhyme they said,

    The wren, the wren, the king of all birds.
    On St. Stephen's day it was caught in the furze.
