much as we know she would be talking if he went to that wood down there and cut a branch from that holly tree and strike her three times she would talk. The man did not wait to hear anymore but he went to the wood and cut the branch.
He came back to the house and struck the girl three times and the third time he struck her she got up and began to work. Then she got married to the man and then this girl knew where a crock of gold was hidden and the man and his wife went to Connaught and got the gold. The fairies knew that the girl knew where this large crock of gold was hidden and this was why the fairies wanted to get her.
The fairies struck the girl dumb because the man would not give them the girl.
When the man got the gold he built a new house and himself, his wife and his mother lived happily ever after.
