for a piece of tobacco. Paddy gave him a small piece and he asked James Likely for a bigger piece. James gave him almost a half an ounce of tobacco and the fairy thanked him very much and he disappeared. The men went on, on their way home and when they were coming down the fields behind Likelys a light followed them.
When they came as far as Likelys cart shed the light disappeared.
James rose early the next morning to give a drink to the sick horse. When he came down to the kitchen he found a little parcel on the table for him. He opened it and he got a great surprise when he saw a pound weight of tobacco in the paten. James told me it was the fairy who left it there because it was not there when he was going to bed and his people were surprised when he told them about it.
