In olden times candles were made from boiled rushes. The makers used to let the rushes boil for day and then they would take them out and strain them. There was a man called James Ward in Meenataggart and he used to make twelve candles every day. In the olden times there were no baskets to get in the shops and the people used to make them themselves. This is the way they used to make the baskets. They used to put five rods round in a circle, weave others out and in between them and the keep on at that untill the basket was finished.
