One of the signs is "Caipín an Cruacán, agus Coumseaingán ag gal tobac". A cap on Croughaurn means a fog on the top of Croughaurn and Coumshingaurn smoking tobacco means a fog rising out of the lake. These are signs of rain.Another sign of bad weather is to see a cat turn his back to the fire. A sign of frost is to see a blue light in the fire. Another sign of rain is a rainbow in the morning.
