    holes were made in each corner. This was done so the cake would not be long baking. In the olden times a griddle was used for baking. The griddle cake was often used. Pancakes were used on Call Canon's night and if you caught a potato at that time it would fly up to the top of the house. The old people used to say that the potatoes were so wet that you could dip one of them in the eye of another.
